Immigration Reform Postmortem

On Wednesday, July 18th, 2007, AFF hosted a roundtable discussion on immigration reform. As the recent battle in the Senate showed, few issues are as divisive in contemporary politics as immigration. But what should classical liberals think of last month's debacle in the Senate? Should classical liberals cheer the defeat of the immigration bill or be upset that Congress continues to make little progress on an issue with serious economic and national security concerns? What is the next step toward immigration reform? If progress cannot be made at the federal level, will state's take action into their own hands? Discussing the issue were writer Amanda Carpenter, Dan Griswold of the Cato Institute and Brian Darling of the Heritage Foundation.
