The Tax Foundation is looking to hire a full-time Manager of Government Relations to develop and implement a newly-established legislative affairs program.
The position will serve as a liaison between Tax Foundation economists and federal and state lawmakers and their staffs, with special emphasis on the House Ways & Means Committee and Senate Finance Committee.
As a new department, candidates will enjoy wide flexibility to develop creative and entrepreneurial programs that further the mission of the Tax Foundation. Successful candidates should demonstrate entrepreneurial ability, detailed knowledge of the legislative process, and the ability to work as a team member within a dynamic and growing organization.
Duties will include:
• Developing new programs to educate Members of Congress and congressional staffs about Tax Foundation products, including conferences, Capitol Hill briefings, retreats, etc.
• Initiating personal meetings between researchers and state and federal lawmakers.
• Tracking the status of federal legislation, and keeping researchers informed about the status of pending bills.
• Developing customized products—newsletters, bullet-point summaries, and web-based products—that help lawmaker employ research products in policy debate.
• Managing mailings and e-mail communications with legislative contacts.
Candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years of experience working for a Member or Congress or related government-relations experience. Detailed understanding of the legislative process and major tax policy debates is essential. Salary will be commensurate with experience and ability.
