The Public Relations Associate for Media Relations will work to enhance the Mercatus Center’s visibility and public image by gaining positive media placements for its scholars and research in international, national, Washington, DC and targeted trade media outlets.
Responsibilities:
1. Developing and pitching story ideas about the Mercatus Center, research, and scholars to national media outlets. This includes:
a. Working with program managers and scholars to develop media strategies for releases of new research and promotion of existing research
b. Creating and delivering pitches to members of the media via phone, email, and press release
c. Identifying appropriate target media lists by monitoring media coverage and using our online media directory
d. Developing working relationships with key members of the media
2. Tracking mainstream media and blog activity on Mercatus and issues related to Mercatus research areas.
3. Editing and pitching op-eds, book reviews, and other articles by Mercatus scholars to national media outlets.
4. Preparing press kits and clipping books.
5. Providing assistance when needed to other aspects of Mercatus’s marketing and communications activities including the Mercatus web site.
Requirements:
• 1-3 years of media relations experience with demonstrable placements.
• B.A. or higer in English, Communications, Journalism, or similar discipline
