The program seeks to bring more bright and ambitious people into the world of education policy, to provide access to some of the nation's top education leaders, and to create a vibrant community of those who will form the next generation of think tank wonks, government officials, and hands-on education reformers. We're looking for great thinkers and writers, and for those who are just as eager to listen to the ideas of others as they are to have their own ideas heard.
Five Fellows will come to Washington, D.C., in Fall 2008. Each will work full-time for nine months (Labor Day to Memorial Day) at a different education policy organization in the city. Each will be deeply integrated into that organization, will be intimately involved in a challenging project, will have access to organization leaders, and will contribute to fulfilling the organization's mission and goals.
The Fordham Fellow has an undergraduate degree, has spent several years in the working world, has a keen interest in public policy, and is eager to learn about and influence the formation of ideas that motivate the national conversation about how best to educate our children. He or she believes that the current system is less than adequate (in many ways, far less than adequate) and is reform-minded. The Fellow is ambitious, energetic, smart, receptive, mature, and a good communicator--the Fellow has a thirst for knowledge and a desire to be challenged. He or she enjoys writing and has a knack for it.
All partner organizations do, and all Fellows should, believe the following:
• All children can learn at high levels
• Schools should be held accountable for helping all students achieve a sound education
• Parents should have options for their children within public education
The application deadline is April 30, 2008. Because applicants are accepted on a rolling basis, candidates would do well to have their application materials to Fordham as soon as possible. Fellows will begin work Tuesday, September 2. Fellows will end their work May 22, 2009.
