Media Relations Assistant

The American Enterprise Institute, a leading nonprofit public policy research organization, seeks a full-time media relations assistant to support AEI's public affairs efforts.

The media relations assistant serves as the primary monitor of news coverage related to the Institute and works directly with the director of public affairs. Responsibilities include coordinating interviews between AEI scholars and journalists, fielding inquiries from the press, and assisting with the set up and management of press rooms at meetings and conferences. This position promotes AEI scholarship by drafting, editing, and sending out press releases, contacting local media outlets to cover conferences and events, and assisting with targeted book mailings. Other responsibilities include systematically updating media contact lists and creating monthly statistical reports to track AEI’s media coverage.

This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex policy material into clear, lively, and straightforward prose. Candidates must have a keen interest in policy and must possess the ability to handle multiple tasks in a frequently busy and demanding environment. Experience writing on a journalistic deadline, familiarity with AP style, and one year related work experience is preferred.
