The Research Department is looking for an Economics Writer I. In this role, the Economics Writer I contributes articles to Region Focus and other publications of the Research Department. The position requires a firm grasp of basic economic theory and its application to public policy issues, as well as the ability to write clearly and concisely. In addition, the position requires the formulation of original article ideas, which will be vetted by editors and more senior writers within the Research/Publications division. Candidates in this position will be expected to contribute brief, timely articles to the Bank's Web site, in addition to print publications.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Propose and write articles on current economic topics affecting the Fifth District of the Federal Reserve System for Region Focus and the Bank's Web site.
Careful proofreading of author's articles for Region Focus once they have been returned by the designer.
Keep abreast of changing economic conditions and new public policy issues in the Fifth District.
Contribute written material to other publications produced by the Research Department.
Compile figures and graphs to accompany articles for Region Focus and other publications of the Research Department.


Qualifications/Experience:

- Undergraduate degree in economics or related field.
- One to two years of experience writing about economic issues for a lay audience.
- Basic knowledge of economic theory and its application to public policy issues.
- Ability to write clearly and engagingly on sometimes technical topics for a diverse audience.
- Ability to develop article ideas independently.
- Ability to interview economists, businesspeople, and policymakers for articles.
- Ability to meet deadlines, make revisions to articles as suggested by editors, and to pay close attention to detail during the fact-checking and proofreading processes.
- Must be willing to travel periodically to conduct interviews for Region Focus and to economic conferences and seminars.
