Economics Writer II

The Research Department is looking for an Economics Writer II In this role, the Economics Writer II is responsible for proposing and writing analytically challenging articles for Region Focus and other publications of the Research Department. The position requires significant knowledge of economic theory and the ability to apply that knowledge to current public policy issues. In addition, the position requires demonstrated ability to translate often complex ideas in a non technical manner to a lay audience with little knowledge of economics. The Economics Writer I will occasionally work with the editors of Region Focus in helping more junior writers for the magazine develop their articles.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

- Propose and write economically challenging articles for Region Focus.
- Collaborate with the magazine's managing editor on the prospective design of the author's articles for Region Focus, especially data-intensive art elements, such as figures and graphs.
- Careful proofreading of author's articles for Region Focus once they have been returned by the designer.
- On occasion, in collaboration with editors in the publication division, assist other writers with the development of their articles, especially the economic analysis necessary for their successful completion.
- Collaborate with department economists on articles for outside publications, such as the American Banker, and for the Bank's external Web site.
- Complete ad hoc writing assignments for other periodical produced by the Research Department, such as the Annual Report, and articles for members of the Bank's senior management.


Qualifications/Experience:

- Undergraduate degree in economics. Graduate degree in economics or related field preferred.
- Minimum of two to three years experience writing about economics and public policy required.
- Significant knowledge of micro- and macroeconomic principles and their application to public policy issues.
- Ability to write succinctly and clearly for a lay audience.
- Ability to develop article ideas on one's own.
- Demonstrated capacity to interact, discuss, and interview economists and business leaders, as well as members of the Bank's senior management team.
- Ability to respond quickly and competently to suggested editorial changes to articles.
- Ability to analyze and work with large data sets.
- Must be willing to travel periodically to conduct interviews for articles for Region Focus and to economic conferences and seminars.
