Program Associate, Regulatory Studies Program and Government Accountability Project

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is seeking applications for the position of Program Associate for its Regulatory Studies Program and Government Accountability Project. These projects combine applied scholarly research and educational outreach to improve regulatory and executive policy outcomes, and train students and policy makers in rigorous analytical techniques. Specifically, Mercatus and affiliated scholars engage in research to examine the costs and consequences of policy decisions, and work with policymakers at the state and federal level to improve the policy process by enabling a focus on public benefits and results.
The Program Associate will initially be responsible for:
• Working with Mercatus senior scholars and policymakers at the federal and state levels to ensure that Mercatus research is communicated to relevant audiences.
• Assisting Mercatus senior scholars and staff with financial market regualtion research and outreach.
• Managing email contact lists, composing HTML emails, and performing routine maintenance on sections of the Mercatus web site and supporting pages.
• Planning and executing symposiums and conferences that bring together Mercatus scholars, practitioners, and policymakers.
• Tracking results of RSP/GAP publications and performance metrics by measurement in the public record and through other relevant systems.
• Assisting the Managing Director for the Regulatory Studies Program and Government Accountability Project (RSP/GAP) and the Associate Director of the Regulatory Studies Program with administrative and research tasks, including tracking programmatic budgets.
• Contributing to the overall strategic direction of the projects by participating in relevant Mercatus staff meetings and other internal and external outreach opportunities.
The Program Associate will report to the Managing Director of RSP/GAP and the Associate Director of the Regulatory Studies Program, and responsibilities of the position have the potential to grow quickly over time as the projects continue to expand. Qualified candidates will have expressed interest in government accountability, regulatory policy or related fields, exceptional interpersonal skills, and demonstrated interest and capabilities in working with both scholars and policymakers. Successful candidates will possess a strong commitment to individual freedom.
Salary is competitive as are benefits, which include full health and dental insurance, a flexible spending account, long-term disability and life insurance, a 403(b) retirement savings program, a parking permit, and one free course per semester at George Mason University.
