AFF Underground theater outing this week...
To kick off the fall, AFF Underground is attending the Shakespeare Theater’s production of Henrik Ibsen’s "An Enemy of the People" -- the great play on censorship and the social implications of promoting the truth. Click here for more info on the play. We have a group of 10 tickets for Thursday, September 21st. It starts at 8:00pm and we’ll go out for drinks afterwards. Tickets are $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers. RSVP to Joanna Robinson at joanna@americasfuture.com.

Crabfest 2006 is this month...
Mark your calendars for Crabfest, AFF’s annual outdoor jamboree, which this year will take place on Saturday, Sept. 30th. We’ll have music, refreshments, and all the crabs, hot dogs and burgers you can handle. Crabfest takes place at the historic Collingswood Mansion in Alexandria, Virginia. The beautiful grounds overlook the water, with plenty of lawn for frisbee or other games. Come spend the afternoon with over a hundred of your fellow conservative and libertarian leaders.

The event will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets are only $25 for members, $40 for non-members. You can also join or renew for a $55 special membership rate that includes a Crabfest ticket, or reserve a whole table of 8 for your office or organization for only $300. Tickets are now on sale at the AFF website. Check out pictures from past years' Crabfests: 2005 and 2004.

AFF monthly happy hour next week...
AFF’s next monthly happy hour will take place next week on Thursday, September 28, at the Eighteenth Street Lounge. The address is 1212 18th Street, NW, and the nearest Metro stop is Dupont Circle on the Red Line. Perhaps adding to its mystique, the 18th Street Lounge doesn’t have a sign out front, so just look for the mirrored entrance next to Candey hardware store. Please note: we’ll be out on the back patio and on the second floor. Just look for AFF members wearing little orange AFF lapel pins. As always, there is no cover and there are beer, wine, and rail drink specials from 6 to 9 p.m.

Missed the Latin America roundtable?
Last week AFF hosted a roundtable titled, “Latin America: Which Way Now?” featuring Marc Wachtenheim of the Pan American Development Foundation, independent Brazilian journalist Olavo de Carvalho, Reason assistant editor David Weigel, and Mario Villarreal of the American Enterprise Institute. If you didn't come by, shame one you. But don't worry, we've got pictures and audio of the event online for your viewing and listening pleasure at: http://www.americasfuture.org/events-archive/archives/021465.php. Remember, at that same address you can subscribe to a podcast of all our roundtable events so you never miss one.

It's membership drive time!
It’s that time again! AFF’s Second Annual Membership Drive is coming up next week. You’ll be getting emails every day Monday through Friday from people encouraging you to join, renew, and tell your friends about AFF. Many of you signed up this time last year, so head on over to the website and go through it just like you did before and you’ll be set for another year of great roundtables, happy hours, special events, a Doublethink subscription, and access to the best network of young libertarians and conservatives in DC. If you have any questions about membership, Membership Director Joanna Robinson is always available at joanna@americasfuture.org.

College athletes, the Pope's comments, and Microsoft at the EU...
In our online magazine this week, Joe Adamson points out the hypocrisy inherent in the NCAA's endorsement rules for student athletes. Meanwhile, James Markels brings us an atheist's perspective on the Muslim uproar over the Pope's recent comments, and Hance Haney survey's Microsoft's new antitrust travails in the EU.
