Elections 2006 roundtable next week...
On Wednesday, October 11, America's Future Foundation will host the Roundtable "Election 2006: Should conservatives and libertarians support Republicans? Or do Republicans deserve to lose?" Washington is a buzz with election speculation. After several years of controlling both the legislature and executive, the GOP risks losing the House, and perhaps even the Senate this fall, and faces strong criticism over their record. Federal spending is through the roof. The war in Iraq continues to divide America. The GOP majority passed admirable tax cuts but fell short on other important initiatives such as Social Security reform and health care reform. Republicans and Libertarians have much to criticize, but are we really ready to face the reality of a Nancy Pelosi majority? Who should right-of-center voters support in the coming month? Please join us as we discuss the implications of the 2006 elections and ask, do Republicans deserve to lose?
Joining us to discuss these issues are Ryan Sager, author of The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians and the Battle to Control the Republican Party, Rob Bluey, editor of Human Events Online, Jonathan Collegio, Press Secretary for the National Republican Congressional Committee, and Andy Roth, Director of Government Affairs at the Club for Growth. Eric Pfeiffer will moderate.
The event will take place at the Fund for American Studies, 1706 New Hampshire Avenue, NW, near Dupont Circle. Drinks at 6:30; Roundtable begins at 7:00. Roundtables are free for members, $5 for non-members. So join today! Please RSVP to Kathleen O'Hearn at kathleen@americasfuture.org.

Brainwash gets new editor...
After 5 years as editor of Brainwash, yours truly is stepping down in order to take on new responsibilities at AFF. But don't fret, we've found a real live journalist to take my place, and he promises to turn Brainwash into a first-in-class online magazine to rival the rest. His name is Eric Pfeiffer and he is the national political reporter for The Washington Times. Previously, he wrote the "Buzz" for National Review Online, a blog on politics and culture. Before going to NRO, he was the Senior Writer for the National Journal's Hotline, a non-partisan daily political briefing. He received a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Oregon in 2001. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, Time, Weekly Standard, National Review, Washington Monthly, The New Republic, Reason and other publications. He has also appeared on ABC, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and a number of radio programs.
We're thrilled to have him. Brainwash has undergone a bit of a facelift that should make it easier for you to read. With Eric's leadership we'll now be able to develop even better content to match our great-looking site. If you'd like to write for Brainwash, shoot Eric an e-mail at eric@americasfuture.org.
Sotto vox, Bob Menendez, Hollywood's neo-noir...
In our online magazine this week, Joanne McNeil invites us to check out the MySpace for people who don't need people. Meanwhile, David Freddoso how New Jersey Democrats can handle this year's Senate race with machine-like efficiency, and Dan Alban writes that style trumps substance in Hollywood's latest return to the noir genre.
You can read Brainwash at http://www.affbrainwash.com. On the new Brainwash site you can post your thoughts and opinions about the articles you read. Also, don't forget to send in your own article submissions.
