AFF Underground this Wednesday...
Don't miss the upcoming AFF Underground event! We'll be attending the Washington Project for the Arts Corcoran (WPA\C) Experimental Media Series "Silver Wings" this Wednesday, November 29 from 7:00-9:00pm. It's FREE, so just meet us there at the Corcoran and we'll check out the exhibit, then walk a few blocks to Café Asia for some drinks. Please RSVP to Joanna Robinson at joanna@americasfuture.org so she can watch out for you. For more info, visit: http://www.wpaconline.org/mediaseries%202/mediaseries2.htm.
AFF happy hour on the Hill this Thursday...
AFF's next monthly happy hour will take place this week on Thursday, November 30th, at Top of the Hill (the upstairs of Pour House) from 6 to 9 p.m. The address is 319 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, a few blocks from the Capitol South metro station on the Orange and Blue lines. As always, there is no cover and there are specials on wine and selected beers.
Neoprohibition roundtable next month...
D.C. bans smoking, Chicago outlaws foie gras, and New York is thinking of forbidding transfats. Is this the return of prohibition? What ever happened to consumer freedom? This is what we'll be discussing at AFF's next roundtable on Wednesday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m. Stay tuned for panelists.
Milton Friedman and row at the LSE...
In our online magazine this week, David Freddoso writes that President Bush, wrongly blamed for many things, is indeed to blame for making so many conservatives commit themselves to a neo-Wilsonian foreign policy of shaping the world according to our image and likeness -- a policy both unworkable and un-conservative. Meanwhile, James Kirchick opines that Virginia Senator George Allen's loss earlier this month to Jim Webb was more than just a win for the Democratic Party, which needed Allen's seat to gain a majority in the Senate. It was a victory for decency over boorishness.
