IN THIS ISSUE: KARL ROVE LEADERSHIP DINNER | LIBERALS AND FAITH ROUDTABLE | INEQUALITY | BUSINESS VS. CONSUMERS | SOFTBALL | HAPPY HOUR | JOBS AND MORE
Karl Rove Leadership Dinner tonight …
As a presidential advisor, how do you gauge the mood of America from inside the Beltway? How do you keep your ear to the ground? And, what role can the young leaders at AFF play in the future of a conservative majority? Join White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove to answer these and other questions on presidential leadership. The event will start 6:30 and will take place at the Arts Club located at 2017 Eye St, NW, Washington, D.C. The nearest Metro stop is Farragut West. The guest list is now closed.
Liberals and faith roundtable this Thursday...
Join AFF on Thursday, February 22, for a roundtable discussion on liberals and faith. In general, Democrats and the left have been courting the religious right with increasing fervor lately--note Barack Obama’s recent visit to an evangelical megachurch--with hopes of couching arguments about minimum wage, global warming, and sundry other causes in religious terms. How does all this square with liberals’ usual talk of separation of church and state? And how do religious conservatives best fit into the American political science? What should their greatest priorities be? How should those with a view toward the City of God approach the din of politics in the City of Man? Joining us to discuss these issues are Patrick Deneen of Georgetown University, Mike Fragoso of the Family Research Council, Amy Sullivan of Washington Monthly, and Julian Sanchez of Reason (invited). Joe Lindsley of the Weekly Standard will moderate.
The event will take place at the Fund for American Studies, 1706 New Hampshire Avenue, NW, near Dupont Circle. Drinks at 6:30; Roundtable begins at 7:00. Roundtables are free for members, $5 for non-members. So join today! Please RSVP to Kathleen O'Hearn at kathleen@americasfuture.org.
Inequality and big business vs. consumers...
In this week's issue of Brainwash, new columnist David White notes with alarm the growing inequality in America and *loves* it. Tim Carney warns that any time someone tells you that one side of a policy debate favors "big business" and the other side favors "consumers," you are probably being lied to. Your entries for Haiku Brew will also be on display, showing an inordinate zeal for adult diaper use and sentence structure. This weeks subjects: troop surge and any of the presidential candidates.

Want to coach AFF softball?
AFF is looking for somebody to head up our softball team that will be a part of the "Think Tank Softball League" this spring/summer. Coaching responsibilities include coordinating games within the league, organizing line-ups/rosters and communicating with the rest of the team. If you're interested in helping out, e-mail kathleen@americasfuture.org.
Happy hour next week...
AFF’s next monthly happy hour will take place on Wednesday, February 28, at the Eighteenth Street Lounge. The address is 1212 18th Street, NW, and the nearest Metro stop is Dupont Circle on the Red Line. Perhaps adding to its mystique, the 18th Street Lounge doesn't have a sign out front, so just look for the mirrored entrance next to Candey hardware store. Just look for AFF members wearing little orange AFF lapel pins. As always, there is no cover and there are beer, wine, and rail drink specials from 6 to 9 p.m.
