Happy hour this week...
AFF’s next monthly happy hour will take place this Wednesday, February 28, at the Eighteenth Street Lounge. The address is 1212 18th Street, NW, and the nearest Metro stop is Dupont Circle on the Red Line. Perhaps adding to its mystique, the 18th Street Lounge doesn't have a sign out front, so just look for the mirrored entrance next to Candey hardware store. Just look for AFF members wearing little orange AFF lapel pins. As always, there is no cover and there are beer, wine, and rail drink specials from 6 to 9 p.m.
AFF Underground next month...
The DC Independent Film Festival is happening in early March. AFF Underground will attend the March 6 "Comedy Central" set. RSVP to Joanna at joanna@americasfuture.org. If ten or more people come, tickets are $6, otherwise they're $11 each. Also, On Thursday, March 22, AFF Underground will be at the Studio Theater (Logan Circle) for the performance of The Pillowman, a play that "explores family secrets, censorship and the irrepressible power of storytelling." AFF has 15 tickets, $35 for members and $38 for nonmembers. RSVP to Joanna before these tickets are snatched up.
Inflation roundtable next month...
On Tuesday, March 13, AFF will host the roundtable "It’s All About the Benjamins, Baby: The Great Inflation Debate." Last November one of few positives Republican candidates could point to was a strong economy. But how strong is it? Is the U.S. economy booming or ridden with hidden inflation? America’s Future Foundation is set to tackle the great macroeconomic debate within the supply-side movement: monetary policy. What is the best indicator of inflation? How can the Fed bet fight off inflation? How does the spot price of gold fit into the equation? Find out on March 13th at an America’s Future Foundation roundtable discussion on the future of monetary policy in the United States. Joining us to discuss these issues is John Tamny, editor of RealClearMarkets. Stay tuned for more panelists.
The event will take place at the Fund for American Studies, 1706 New Hampshire Avenue, NW, near Dupont Circle. Drinks at 6:30; Roundtable begins at 7:00. Roundtables are free for members, $5 for non-members. So join today! Please RSVP to Kathleen O’Hearn at kathleen@americasfuture.org.
Audio and photos from last week's liberals and faith roundtable...
Audio and photos from last Thursday's roundtable discussion on religion and the left are now online. Panelist were Patrick Deneen of Georgetown University, Mike Fragoso of the Family Research Council, Amy Sullivan of Washington Monthly, and Julian Sanchez of Reason. Joe Lindsley of the Weekly Standard moderated.
Something foul in the Capitol and Harvard's new prez...
In this week's Brainwash, David Freddoso smells something foul in the Capitol building, but legislators call it business as usual. New contributor, Andrew Guess looks at the narratives about Harvard's new femme-in-charge and wonders if anyone can be surprised that the school that replaced an alleged sexist with his feminist foil. Also, this week's Haiku Brew hitting both surges and potential candidates. Topics for next week's Haiku Brew: Britney's shaved head and paternalistic laws.
Brainwash is AFF's online webzine, with a mission to provide the youngest, freshest perspectives to the public, regardless of experience. Feel like contributing to Brainwash? Send a pitch to jp@americasfuture.org.
