AFF Town Hall Meeting tomorrow!
The roundtable we had planned for tomorrow, “It’s All About the Benjamins, Baby: The Great Inflation Debate,” will be postponed until next month so that we can accommodate some great panelists, including Steve Moore of The Wall Street Journal. In its stead we plan to hold a real roundtable in the form of an AFF Town Hall Meeting.
The panelists for this event will be you. We’ll have an open conversation about AFF, the future of the conservative and libertarian movement, and where we’re headed. Topics for discussion will include: Coulter at CPAC; the commodification of conservatism; what’s the libertarian plan for change?; have think tanks run their course?; where are our movement’s overlooked opportunities?; the state of AFF, is AFF too libertarian or conservative?; and more.
Come with an open mind and lots of ideas. We want to hear from you. There will be no charge for this event, so bring a friend. The event will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, March 13, at the Fund for American Studies, 1706 New Hampshire Avenue, NW, near Dupont Circle. Drinks at 6:30; Roundtable begins at 7:00. Please RSVP to Kathleen O’Hearn at kathleen@americasfuture.org.
New weekly podcast from AFF...
This weekend, AFF launched Inside Washington Weekly, a weekly, 15-20 minute podcast that brings together young libertarians and conservatives to discuss and debate the political news of the week. Hosted by David White, the chat features two regular panelists -- David Freddoso of the Evans-Novak Political Report and Brainwash editor J.P. Freire -- and one guest each week.
This week's show, featuring Robert Bluey of The Heritage Foundation, covers the Ann Coulter blowup, social conservatives and the Republican primaries, and a new Pew poll on the young and the GOP. Be sure to check it out at www.americasfuture.org/podcast, and if you enjoy it, be sure to tell your friends and subscribe on iTunes!
Globalization and a new schedule...
Starting a (hopefully) tri-weekly publishing schedule for Brainwash, Alvino Mario Fantini offers McDonalds gazpacho to anti-globalization garden party -- and it's best served cold. With our new publishing schedule, your submissions are even more likely to make it into the mix. Have a neat story? Send it to jp@americasfuture.org. Also, we're looking to start a program called Field Notes. If you attend any events, send us a quick summary of it letting us know what went on.
Want to coach AFF softball?
AFF is looking for somebody to head up our softball team that will be a part of the "Think Tank Softball League" this spring/summer. Coaching responsibilities include coordinating games within the league, organizing line-ups/rosters and communicating with the rest of the team. If you're interested in helping out, e-mail kathleen@americasfuture.org.
Your dream job...
The National Interest is looking to fill a senior editorial position at the magazine. This person would be deputy to the editor and share responsibilities for planning of issues and commissioning articles. This person would also supervise the production of the magazine. The successful candidate should have practical experience in publication matters (ideally, at least three years experience) but also demonstrate a keen interest in international affairs (and be able to work at a periodical which approaches such matters from a realist perspective). For more info, see http://www.americasfuture.org/jobboard/archives/022000.php.
