AFF Underground: Avenue Q!
This month, AFF is going to the theatre for a special performance of Avenue Q, the acclaimed broadway musical comedy featuring...puppets? The production features live actors as well as puppets to act out the hilarious tale of "Princeton", a graduate of an un-named top tier college, as he arrives in New York City ready to begin life as a young professional, only to discover that he can't find money to pay his rent, and he can't find his purpose in life! This witty comedy will only be in DC for a very limited engagement, and AFF members will be able to attend for only $20 (non-members for $30)!
We have a block of tickets for the December 6th performance, and will be meeting at Chef Geoff's across the street from National Theatre for drinks and ticket distribution at 6:30. Mark your calendars for Thursday, December 6th, and make sure to RSVP to kristen@americasfuture.org to reserve your tickets.
AFF December Roundtable: Candidate Forum
On December 12, AFF will host a 2008 Presidential Candidate Forum. The 2008 presidential race began earlier than usual. After suffering devastating midterm losses, faced with a wartime PR problem, and spooked by the prospect of HillaryCare 2.0, a lot is at stake for Republicans in 2008. As the presidential campaigns draw closer to the all-important primaries, please join us to debate the merits and pitfalls of the Republican frontrunners. We will also be doing a straw poll so come ready with your vote!
Joining us in the discussion will be Justin Hart of MyManMitt.com supporting Mitt Romney, Jesse Benton of the Ron Paul campaign, Mike Zarrelli will be supporting Rudy Giuliani, and Jon Henke of New Media Strategies will be supporting Fred Thompson. Chris Beam of Slate Magazine will moderate. The event will take place at the Fund for American Studies, 1706 New Hampshire Avenue, NW, near Dupont Circle. Drinks at 6:30; Roundtable begins at 7:00. Roundtables are free for members, $5 for non-members. So join today! Please RSVP to Cindy Cerquitella at cindy@americasfuture.org.
AFF on the Road: Chicago Happy Hour Launch
“AFF On The Road” will be launched in Chicago on December 11, 2007. This happy hour will take place at Jak’s Tap (located at 901 W. Jackson Blvd., in Chicago, IL.) The purpose of this event is to welcome liberty minded conservatives and libertarians to the AFF mission, and to spread the word about our first round table discussion on January 16th, 2008. Joining us will be special guest John Tillman, Chariman & CEO of the Illinois Policy Institute.
So be sure to let your friends, in and around Chicago, know about this important outgrowth of AFF, as we seek to broaden our scope of influence and discover the future conservative and libertarian leaders around the country. More information on AFF on the Road events will be forthcoming.
AFF Chicago Roundtable: The Ownership Society and its Discontents
On January 16th AFF will host will host a roundtable on the Ownership Society and its Discontents. To what extent did President Bush’s vision for an Ownership Society succeed or fail in policy and politics? Looking to the future, is ownership a uniting theme for conservatives and libertarians on health care reform, school choice, and social security reform? Or does polling data reflect a decline of voter support for smaller government, in general? Are the Republican presidential candidates reflecting voter preferences, or vice versa? With so much dissatisfaction within the conservative and libertarian base, join us for a discussion on how Republicans should re-shape their “brand” in 2008 and beyond.
Joining us in the discussion will be Ramesh Ponnuru of the National Review and moderating this discussion will be Blake Dvorak of Real Clear Politics. Stay tuned for more panelist and details.
